Night

Night sky seeps through
the skyscrapers like
diaphanous fingers
that beckoned Toucan Sam
follow your nose, it always knows, follow your nose
downtown,
the neon signs
are lighthouses
calling me to the windows
full of shiny pricey things
a museum exhibit of
trinkets and home furnishings
on the way to Union Square
I don’t need to buy them
they are already mine, right now
protected by glass
from the bruise colored night
from the yappy yappy girls
“Like, Oh my GOD”ing as they
pass me by
heels clopping on the sidewalk
like the old hansom cabs did,
down Broadway
past where I stand in the night
right now
ghostly time traveling
wishing I was there, done up
a la Gibson
instead of here
alone in the night
as the dark closes in
unyielding to the electricity
