Cancer – The Sexy Italian Grandmother (or Godfather) Of The Zodiac

A - Z C

If you were born between June 22 and July 22, then you were born under the sign of Cancer, the Crab.  You might laugh at my personal description in the title, but it fits!!! Cancers are intuitive, sensual, deeply compassionate, loyal, caring, dependable, family-oriented, sentimental, protective of their loved ones, and also deeply protective of their own sensitivity.  They’re wonderful listeners and devoted friends: they love helping others feel great about themselves.   They are creative, kind, and accepting of others (unless they intuit someone is a threat).  They can be very funny and are natural storytellers, poets, and songwriters.  They are very charming and seductive.

On the flip side of that, Cancers are moody, unpredictable, and easy to offend. Cancer can be quite cruel if hurt because they get into people’s nooks and crannies and intuitively know everyone’s weak spots – if crossed, they can poke these tender spots, hard.  Cancer like to get deep, yet fear it at the same time because they feel everything so intensely and fear being hurt.  It’s a conundrum for them because they crave a true connection with the people they love, and to do that, they need to let down their guard.  Perhaps that’s why they can get bitter when someone hurts their feelings – they don’t let too many people that close to them, despite their very warm nature.  They also can be manipulative since they DO suss out people’s weak spots – they are masters at guilt trips – shoot, they’re Guilt Travel Agents.  Where Pisces will just go away or Scorpio will plot revenge when hurt, Cancer will hold their wound over your head, silently demanding you to make it up to them.

Some Cancers have a tendency to be co-dependent and will fuss over their loved ones like an Italian grandmother: they’ll feed you (“you’re too thin!”), worry about you, (“Are you cold? Do you need a sweater?”), protect you, (“WHO said that to you? Point them out!”), and love you up as much as you’ll let them.  They LOVE to love you.  The problem is sometimes they do it at the expense of their own needs and can get cranky if they feel taken for granted or unappreciated.  Being so emotionally outwardly focused, they can appear to be clingy or needy when feeling insecure about their place in your life, they need to know they are important to you.

Pearl is the birthstone of June and Ruby is the birthstone of July — both enhance Cancer’s Cardinal Water energy.  Other Cancer-energy enhancing stones are: Amber, Blue Calcite, Chrysoprase, Emerald, Moss Agate and Rainbow Moonstone.

To balance the energies, we will need all our grounding stones, plus one extra.

Hello, Snowflake Obsidian!!!

Snowflake Obsidian

Snowflake Obsidian

Snowflake Obsidian has the nice grounding properties of regular Obsidian, with an added protective twist:  Snowflake Obsidian wards off negativity from both the person using it and other people.  Snowflake Obsidian can protect empathetic people from taking on the emotions of other people. Super-sensitive Cancer can use Snowflake Obsidian to help them set boundaries.  I personally think Cancer becomes co-dependent because they are natural empaths and hate to see the ones they love suffer and want to get in there and make it all better.  Snowflake Obsidian can help them keep the focus on themselves so they can give themselves some loving self-care (which they really need) and worry a little less about their loved ones.

Cancer more than the other Water Signs could use some detachment, so I recommend using a lot of Air stones and just a few fire stones — their Cardinal energy acts a lot like Fire Energy.

Amazonite, Azurite, Fluorite, Lapis Lazuli, Chiastolite, Citrine, Carnelian, Sunstone

Amazonite, Azurite, Fluorite and Lapis Lazuli are Air Stones (not to mention Third Eye and Throat Chakra stones) to help keep a cool, clear head and aid in detatching with love and big-picture perspective.  It also helps them to speak clearly about their needs and feelings, which Cancer can find difficult to do.  Chiastolite is a cool little crystal that is kind of an Earth AND Air stone:  it’s grounding and wards off negativity and helps us to release the past and break out of old thinking patterns.  It also wards off depression and feelings of loneliness.

For some balancing Fire energy, use Citrine (helps build self esteem and enhances personal power), Carnelian and Sunstone.

The ruler of Cancer is the Moon, so Cancers may be particularly sensitive to the phases of the Moon.  It might be fun to find a lunar calendar and pay attention and see how your energy is affected.    I like to use this online lunar calendar at Lunarium.
