If you ask me to play Zodiac FMK*, my answers would be Scorpio, Leo, Sagittarius – no offense to any sign, this is how I personally get along romantically with men of those signs, and this is how I would have answered even 20 years ago. In 2012, I actually DID marry a Leo!! This might make me mildly biased but I will do my best to put my gushy adoration aside and tell you what I know about the people born between July 23 and August 21.
Leo is a Fixed Fire sign — passionate, warm, and creative yet pragmatic, calm (until provoked), loyal, and stubborn (but open to reason if you leave them alone with it long enough for them to think it’s their idea). Leo’s are outrageously generous – they are like the Ghost Christmas Present in the classic 1970 movie “Scrooge”:
Natural entertainers, Leo throws great parties, they give great gifts, they make a mean margarita, they tell hilarious stories. They enjoy life and all it’s pleasures, material and immaterial and they love to share it with everybody. They’re generous with their warmth and confidence, too. If you need somebody to believe in you, Leo is GREAT at that. That’s because Leo totally believes in themselves, too. They’ve got lots of irons in the fire and need to have a project — and unlike some other fire signs that move on to the next project without finishing the first because they get bored, Leo GETS IT DONE, thanks to that Fixed Energy.
Woe to you if YOU are their project, though. They can’t resist a fixer-upper but nothing makes them more furious than when they give you their excellent advice and you ignore it. They won’t want to waste their breath on you again and might be a little standoffish at first, but eventually they will forgive you, because they’re big-hearted and can’t hold grudges for too long, life is too short!
They do have a temper though, and they might quietly simmer for a while before exploding out of what FEELS like nowhere, but that’s really just them finally roaring after the last straw. Their roar is definitely worse than their bite and you can smooth things over by being properly contrite and flattering your way back into their good graces. Leos love it when you love them, they soak it up like a sponge. Deep inside they are vulnerable and they are like a Sunflower in the sunlight, they need that light or they wither and close up.
They need to be admired. They might be modest or really out there, but every kind of Leo needs to feel like you think they’re amazing. They want you to turn to them for help and direction, they love to help you and tell you what to do (but you better do it). They need to be needed, but their pride will not let them say this out loud, so if they feel like they’re being taken for granted or that they’re not respected, they will suffer in silence until it’s too much to bear. Nothing sadder than a sad lion.
Some people think Leo is a high-maintenance friend, family member or love interest, but they’re really not if you are the outwardly expressive type. If you like to play your cards too close to the chest, you won’t be in the game very long.
Yes, they can be melodramatic, vain, bossy, and stubborn. They will also be the first to agree that they are totally worth it.
July’s traditional birthstone is Ruby and August’s is Peridot: both enhance Leo’s energy along with: Amber, Carnelian, Emerald, Sunstone, and Green Tourmaline:
Leo could always use Water stones to get in touch with their softer side that they usually hide under laughs or imperious superiority: Rose Quartz, Larimar, Aquamarine, Moonstone– the Air stones also help them keep a cool head and give them space to RESPOND rather than REACT (something all Fire Signs need help with getting that space) – and any Crown Chakra stones to help them connect to their Higher Power so they don’t have to feel the pressure of being their OWN Higher Power: Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Blue Lace Agate, Herkimer Diamond.
And of course, because WE ALL NEED IT, the Grounding Stones:
*FMK – Um, have carnal relations with someone in the crude terminology: F**k, Marry, or Kill. A fun game with friends where you give them three choices and have them put one in each category. For example, the Brady Bunch Boys. For me it would be in their age order: Greg, Peter, Bobby.
